Installing Hive in Hadoop-1.X cluster

Hi Hivebeginers,

This material is about the installation of hive in your machine. The need things before installation of hive is, you need hadoop in your machine. After installing hive you can find a hive shell. In hive shell you can start querying hql


1. Download hive from the below link. If you want to get the latest version of hive then enter in to official hive siteSite.
$ wget

2. Download the Java from Oracle. Please Check for Oracle Website if the link is broken. Please check for current version in the Oracle Site.
$ tar -zxvf hive-1.1.0.tar.gz

To install and process hive, hadoop is needed in you machine.
Set the Hadoop Path in .bashrc file
$ vi .bashrc
export JAVA_HOME=/home/bigdata/jdk1.6.0_45
export HADOOP_HOME=/home/bigdata/hadoop-1.2.1
export HIVE_HOME=/home/bigdata/hive-1.1.0

Execute the .bashrc file
$source .bashrc

Start your Hadoop Cluster
Start your hive
$ cd hive-1.1.0
$ bin/hive

hive> show tables;
its show OK time taken (it’s successfully Installed hive)
